Research Project Preface: My past experiences with research projects have been decent for the most part, but I am going to mention this one in particular that I did a few years ago in another English in college. This entire class was focused on fiction books and films, and our research paper was to compare the similarities and differences between "The Hobbit" and "Lord of the Rings." Well, some of my classmates were huge fans of this series. Me personally, I dislike them very much. It's just not my cup of tea. Believe it or not, we spent a majority of this class on the Lord of the Rings series. One of our final grades was this research paper, that had to be if I remember correctly, 8 pages. Don't ask how I got through it, but I did. Other than that experience, I don't really mind doing research projects if it's about something I'm genuinely interested in.
For my Research project, I am going to base it off of the question, "How can America better address the country’s mental health crisis?"
This is something that is extremely important to me, as I have stated in my other pieces of writing thus far. As someone who lives with a mood disorder, I find it very difficult to live an everyday normal life. I am just one person, so I'm sure there's a ton of people that feel the same way as me- and even if someone doesn't necessarily have a disorder, everyone deals with mental health issues. I believe that if people took care of their mental health like they should, the world would be a better place. Or at least better than it is now. I've seen so many people that have been completely burnt out from their everyday lifestyles.
In my opinion, when we are not paying attention to our mental health, we almost become useless. But I feel as though many people do not know how to take care of their mental health, or they don't even realize that they need to, until it's too late. We as a society do not portray mental health to be as important as it is, therefore many people do not talk about it like they should. I am going to go over certain personal experiences I have encountered, and also specific articles to make my argumentation come together.
